What a wonderful website. I've just started to create our school website but I had no idea that so much could be done using the ik software.
You've obviously put in a lot of effort and time but it has paid off as your website is colourful, fun and informative.
Can I please use some of your ideas to make our site better?
REPLY FROM GREAT RISSINGTON: Thank you for your kind comments. You're more than welcome to use any of our ideas on your website. If you want any specific help or advice, do feel free to e-mail me direct at helen@eastwooduk.com |

Hiya Rissi!
I didn't realise that you had a website that you can leave comments on...
Anyway, I hope you are all well and ready for the next year. The Cotswold School is great and the first year has flown by. I managed not to get a detention! Yay!
Please say hi to everyone for me (if they remember me!!!). I am missing you all very much and it seems a lot longer than a year ago that I was leaving, even though i say that this year has flown by!
I hope to see you all soon.

Dropped in while trying to find contact details for one of the 3 primary schools in my new parish....Lovely to see everything flourishing in so many different directions...Huge changes, clearly, even since we visited for Rupert's farewell. Lots of love and continued blessings to all of you.

PS LOVED reading the comments from former pupils in the guest book. It says alot for Gt Rissington that they've bothered to drop in :-) |

We are a service childrens school based in Germany and have looked at your website and have been very impressed with it's layout and the information available, please could you tell us how you achieved the school logo on your background. We are currently using one of the ik templates but strive to personalise ours, we appreciate you may be busy but would really appreciate a response. Many Thanks - Slim school. If you would like to see our website we're at www.slimschool.ik.org REPLY FROM GREAT RISSINGTON: In response to your query about how to set a background logo..... Firstly, go to the Schools IK website and click on the left hand tab 'Online Help and Knowledgebase' and download their Training Manual. You then need to refer to Part 3 (the 'Advanced' section). You'll require a graphics program to create a logo on your background and points 1.1 and 1.2 explain about the various graphics packages available, then refer to point 1.4 about the size settings for the background page and then point 1.8 gives further details about customising your background. Make sure that the logo is quite opaque, like a watermark, otherwise you won't be able to read text over the top of it. The 'opacity' settings on graphics packages will create this effect. If you are not familiar with graphics packages, it will be a case of trial and error! |

Who is Helen? Why is she not on the Staff page? REPLY FROM GREAT RISSINGTON: Hello David, I'm Helen and no, I'm not on the staff page. I used to work at Great Rissington as their administrator where I started to create their first website, and since leaving I did further work on the site to finally launch it, and have carried on editing it since then. Schools IK no longer offer the free training that I was lucky enough to receive, so it's not quite so easy to handover to new staff coming into the school. I'm now working as school administrator at Rodmarton School, which is much nearer to my home than Great Rissington. Helen |

Hi there, just to say a very impressive site. Can you tell me how you get the coloured border around the photos? Many thanks REPLY FROM GREAT RISSINGTON: Hi Nathalie, The photos that have a border around them (i.e. those in 'About Us') have also been made into 'internal links' so that you can either click on the picture or the text below it to access the page in question. As soon as the photo has been made into a link, it automatically appears with a border. The colour of the border depends on the settings applicable to your design of site, i.e. whichever colour scheme you originally chose when you first set up your site, although you can go back into 'Site Settings' and 'Theme Control' and edit the border colours at a later date. (P.S. The colour of the border will usually change once you have clicked on the picture, which shows you've already accessed that link). Do get back to me if you have any more queries. Helen |

Your Web Site looks great. I have recently started to design a Web Site for our school, but have very little knowledge on this area. I have been into ender-design for lines, but how do I put these onto my web pages? Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks Joanne at Walworth Special School REPLY FROM GREAT RISSINGTON: In Ender Designs, double click on the line or bullet etc. that you want to save - this will open it up so you can see it as a picture on its own, then right click on the image and select 'Save picture as'. You can then save it to your computer, either with the name it's been given, or you can rename the picture so you can remember what to look for when you want to add it to your site! You then need to upload it onto your Schools IK site as you would a photograph. If the image you've uploaded is a 'gif' you won't be able to see a preview of it when you've loaded it up onto the images on your site, but once you insert it as a picture onto your web page, you'll be able to see it. Hope this helps, Helen |

Hi, I was just wondering how you made those 'dividers' on your homepage which have a gradient effect. I would really like to put them on my site. You may contact me via my e-mail address above. Thanks REPLY FROM GREAT RISSINGTON: Hi Mason. Thanks for all your helpful input.
I actually got the gradient lines from a website called http://www.ender-design.com/rg/ which I found out about from a DIY website book. If you go to this site and click on the LINES option, you get a whole host of lines including INWARD GRADIENTS and OUTWARD GRADIENTS. Alternatively it is possible to make them yourself in Adobe Photoshop Elements or similar photo editing software, but it depends how familiar you are with such packages. A word of warning though, sometimes the lines are too wide for the page, even though it doesn't appear that they are, and if this happens they may push some of the right hand text out of view on the page you've inserted them. If this occurs, you just need to manually drag the line from the edge to reduce the size, as you would to resize a text box or drawing object in Microsoft Word/PowerPoint. Good Luck! Helen |

Hi Congratulations on winning your award. I am in the process of updating our school website. I thought your idea of using PDF format for your Prospectus and OFSTED report is great. Is there an idiots guide for doing this and do I have to purchase any special software? Thanks, Lorraine Cooper, St Joseph's Catholic Primary REPLY FROM GREAT RISSINGTON: We bought the Adobe Writing software from http://www.pugh.co.uk who are based in Aberystwyth. They have special reduced prices for educational establishments. I think the current price for Acrobat 7 Std software is around £80.00. Once you have it installed on your computer it is really easy to save any word, excel or powerpoint file as a pdf. You can't use it to save any Publisher files though. You can create a direct external web link to the Ofsted site where your Ofsted report is, so you don't even need Acrobat to save your Ofsted report. I also understand that there are websites that now allow you to download pdf writing software for free, but I haven't used them. All the best with your site updating. Helen |
